OK, everyone, We've been working over the past few months to assemble some real life stories from real customers to share with you. I think you'll all be able to benefit from the topics we discuss. But it's taken a long time to gather everything, and therefore,  it's been awhile since I've posted. Sorry about this. Really, I am. But I think when you see what we've put together, you'll agree it has been worth the wait.

Speaking of upcoming posts...if anyone has any topics you'd like me to cover, feel free to comment here or shoot me an email at info@scyardworks.com.

Did We Move to Seattle Or What?

Good grief! I feel like we're in Seattle with all these super dreary, rainy days, not the gorgeous Lowcountry of sunny South Carolina. If you're like me, you're going stir crazy being cooped up inside, and you're itching for better weather so you can start planting your seasonal color.  Well, you're not alone. I'm going nuts, too. I can't wait for this awful weather pattern to break so we can get back outside and liven things up.  Until this bad weather breaks, I've got to stay busy. I've been spending most of my time dreaming up new designs that I will implement once the time is right. This is actually a GREAT time to plan new flower beds and plan for refurbishing existing beds.   So until Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler tells me the dreary days are over, I'll be dreaming of ways to beautify the outdoors.

Spring Seasonal Color

4/20/2014

Well it's about time. After weeks of on again, off again weather, it seems like Spring may finally be here. That means it's officially time to redo your seasonal color. I know it's hard to pull up perfectly healthy flowers from the winter, but it won't be long before those pansies start looking really tired and puny. Sure, you think they're healthy and flourishing, and no one wants to destroy living plant life, especially me. But trust me on this you guys.  They look healthy now, but practically overnight they will look terrible. So go ahead and bite the bullet now. Rip 'em out. Replace them with whatever strikes your fancy. Run over to Lowe's and see what looks good. I saw some gorgeous petunias last week. Grab a flat or two and replace those winter pansies as soon as you can. Be sure to check the labels for sun/shade and soil requirements to ensure you're getting something that will work for the area you're enhancing.   It's not complicated, but I'll admit that it can be intimidating, so if you don't want to tackle it yourself, just give me a call. I LOVE playing in the dirt and I REALLY LOVE playing with flowers. I'm happy to help.

Hi. I'm Johanna Rokes and design is my 'thing.' Using flowers and plants to create spectacular designs is really my favorite thing.  In my blog, I'll talk about all sorts of things related to plants, trees, grasses and flowers, especially in the Low Country  of SC. I'll discuss trends in landscaping. I'll bring in experts to discuss things that people ask about frequently that are outside of my area of expertise. My hope is to leave each reader of my blog more informed than they were. My teammates and I aim to educate you about landscaping in the Low Country. Welcome to my blog, A Low Country Landscape.
