Upon completing his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Clemson University in 2014, Brad returned to Charleston to continue cultivating his craft of residential design. Prior to graduate school, he attended College of Charleston, graduating in 2003 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Shortly after college, Brad realized his true passion for landscape design and horticulture. Dedicating the next eight years to practical training through relative work experience to understand and appreciate the design process from inception to realization, He worked for a wholesale nursery, learning the plants best suited to our climate, an irrigation company to understand form and functionality, Hyams Garden Center while attending night classes for design and horticulture at Trident Tech, and as an independent landscape designer. His approach to design_ Brad views effective design as an organic process. It is through this process that relationships between the built environment and native landscape are formed to reflect nature and beauty while realizing the potential of place for entertaining and retreat. His combination and use of plant materials with varied leaf patterns, texture, color and fragrance, and growth habit are incorporated with hardscape features to create lively and functional landscapes defined by contrast and vibrancy. Aside from residential design his personal interests include historic preservation, landscape and abstract photography, travel, horticulture, and volunteer work within the Charleston community. As a native of the low country and resident of West Ashley with his wife Jenny, he values the preservation of natural and historic landscapes unique to Charleston and surrounding coastal communities.
