Brooks Swanger is a bit of a rarity in the Lowcountry. He was born and raised in Charleston and spent most of his childhood enjoying Charleston’s natural bounty of fishing, hunting, and camping. Brooks’ mother was a teacher and artist and instilled a love of drawing and painting at an early age, eventually leading him to combine his love of nature and art to pursue an education in Landscape Architecture. Brooks studied at Clemson University where prior to graduation, he was chosen to participate in a Study Abroad program in Genoa, Italy, where he was exposed first hand to many classic Italian and French gardens with European architecture as a constant backdrop. Growing up around Charleston’s historic gardens combined with his experiences in Europe affected Brooks in a profound way, attributing to his flair for the classics. Drawing upon his experiences in downtown Charleston gardens, Brooks developed a keen attention to detail evident in this region’s intimate outdoor living spaces. Brooks loves creating personalized outdoor spaces that incorporate aspects of Old Charleston blended with some of the more contemporary trends of modern architecture.
